Act your age, Eve Brown was one of the most adorable books I’ve ever read!!

From the two thoughtfully crafted characters who are cute and hilarious together as a couple to their beautiful character development and tender moments between them, made my heart flutterđŸ„°. This book made me so happy that I want to read it for the first time again!

“Well,” Jacob said reasonably, “do you know what you want instead?” She couldn’t answer. She couldn’t answer because she’d never had a chance to ask herself that question. She’d been too busy expecting herself to simply know, and get on with it already, and succeed.

After giving up on a wedding planning job when her last project is ruined, Eve’s parents have a harsh (but necessary) discussion with her that she needs to grow up, focus on one job and prove herself. Eve after deciding that she will do exactly that stumbles upon a bed and breakfast taking interviews for a chef position in a nearby town, Skybriar owned by Jacob Wayne. She had experience in cooking and, baking pastries is her specialty, so she goes for the interview. Jacob being strict about his B&B rejects her for the position. But then she accidentally hits him with her car and now he has got a concussion and fractured arm.

So, she stays in his B&B to help with the cooking and help him in maintaining the order of things until he gets better. As their worlds collide, these two, grumpy and sunshine slowly give in two their heated attraction and get to know each other in a way that turns their animosity into something very special.

Characters: Eve Brown was hilarious, gorgeous, confident, caring, and a literal ball of sunshine! I wish she were a real person haha. The way she found herself and her passion throughout the book was so beautiful. She was confident and shameless. She spoke her mind and got on Jacob’s nerves. I loved every second of it.

As she would always give up on her hobbies, projects, and jobs, she became quite self-loathing which was evident from her inner monologues. Hence, when she is learning to change her perspective towards herself there comes a moment where she is about to underestimate her abilities but then suddenly she stops that train of thought. She realizes her self-worth, and it’s one of the most powerful Eve moments. (Oh there are plenty of them!)

I loved her characterization. Her caring nature along with her loud and childish traits (and unique T-shirts) led to some memorable moments in the book.

Let’s talk about Jacob now! How does Talia Hibbert do this? How can she write such great and swoon-worthy men in her books? They are flawed, but always up for bettering themselves. Jacob was grumpy, always seeking control, passionate about his job, and had a calm demeanor. Jacob Wayne’s love for his work made me admire him more. His growth arc was so incredible with the way he came out of his shell after finding his happiness in Eve. He was so earnest with his compliments and admiration for her. For someone who thinks to not have a good sense of humor, he was quite funny.

Our Grumpy Jacob found his sunshine in Eve. They were perfect together. I liked how both of them were autistic which resulted in them finding comfort while talking to each other (whether it was the constant playful teasing or deep discussions). Despite their constant jabs and arguments, they had immense respect for each other, more so after becoming friends (yeah it goes from haters to friends to lovers for them).

And the sexual tension omg!!!! Our boy was whipped😂 (when they were in their hating stage), he couldn’t get enough of her smile. It was so cute, he tried so hard not to fall. Everything about them was cute. I can go on with that but let’s just say they were perfectly suited for each other. While overcoming their inner struggles, they somehow brought each other’s best versions out.

Eve found her passion and Jacob found his sunshine❀ Wait did I forget to say that they were the FUNNIEST!! I was laughing so much at almost all of their unique encounters (and unique they were😂).

Writing & Plot: Talia Hibbert has done it again! The writing was fast-paced and humorously entertaining also the smut was pretty hot. The fluffy and tender moments between them made us see how compatible they were. While the internal struggle and personal trauma that we got to read from each of their perspectives, was so nicely written too. Their attraction towards each other, and them trying to control that but eventually falling in love was so fun to read.
The appearance of her family and elder sisters in between the story added more of these amusing moments.
Even though the ending conflict was quite unnecessary, it reminded me of bollywood movie scenes (you’ll know what I mean if you are familiar with both), it wasn’t stretched much and resolved quickly.

Final thoughts: Act your age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert was a 5 star read for me. It had all my favorite tropes from grumpy and sunshine to mutual rivals to friends to lovers. The detailed characterization, heartwarming moments, and some sizzling chemistry between our adorable main leads, made this an unforgettable read.
