Act your age, Eve Brown was one of the most adorable books I’ve ever read!!
From the two thoughtfully crafted characters, who are both cute and hilarious together as a couple, to their beautiful character development and tender moments, this book made my heart flutter š„°. It made me so happy that I wish I could read it again for the first time!
āWell,ā Jacob said reasonably, ādo you know what you want instead?ā She couldnāt answer. She couldnāt answer because sheād never had a chance to ask herself that question. Sheād been too busy expecting herself to simply know, and get on with it already, and succeed.
After a failed wedding planning project, Eveās parents urge her to grow up, stick to one job, and prove herself. Determined to do just that, she stumbles upon a bed and breakfast in Skybriar thatās hiring a chef. Though baking is her specialty, the gruff owner, Jacob Wayne, rejects her. But when she accidentally hits him with her car, leaving him with a concussion and a fractured arm, she ends up staying to help with the cooking and keep things running. As grumpy meets sunshine, their initial friction slowly turns into something much more.
Characters: Eve Brown was hilarious, gorgeous, confident, caring, and a literal ball of sunshine! I wish she were a real person haha. The way she discovered herself and her passion throughout the book was truly beautiful. She was confident and unapologetically herself. She spoke her mind and got on Jacob’s nerves. I loved every second of it. Since she had a habit of giving up on her hobbies, projects, and jobs, she developed a deep sense of self-loathing, which was clear from her inner monologues. So when she begins to shift her perspective and grow, there’s a moment where she’s about to doubt herself but then she stops. In that instant, she recognizes her self-worth. and it’s one of the most powerful Eve moments. (Oh there are plenty of them!)
I loved her characterization. Her caring nature along with her loud and childish traits (and unique T-shirts) which led to some memorable moments in the book.
Let’s talk about Jacob now! How does Talia Hibbert do this? How can she write such great and swoon-worthy men in her books? They are flawed, but always eager to better themselves. Jacob was grumpy, always seeking control, passionate about his job, and had a calm demeanor. Jacob Wayne’s love for his work made me admire him more. His growth arc was so incredible with the way he came out of his shell after finding his happiness in Eve. He was so earnest with his compliments and admiration for her. For someone who thinks to not have a good sense of humor, he was quite funny.
Our Grumpy Jacob found his sunshine in Eve. They were perfect together. I liked how both of them were autistic which resulted in them finding comfort while talking to each other (whether it was the playful teasing or deep discussions). Despite their constant jabs and arguments, they had a deep respect for each other, especially after becoming friends. (Yes, itās a haters-to-friends-to-lovers arc!)Ā And the sexual tension omg!!! Our boy was so whipped š (even during their hating stage). He couldnāt get enough of her smile. It was adorable how hard he tried not to fall for her. Everything about them was just so cute. I could go on, but letās just say they were perfectly suited for each other. While working through their inner struggles, they somehow brought out the best in each other.
Eve found her passion and Jacob found his sunshine⤠Wait, did I forget to say that they were the FUNNIEST!! I was laughing so much at almost all of their unique encounters (and unique they wereš).

Writing & Plot: Talia Hibbert has done it again! The writing was fast-paced and humorously entertaining also the smut was pretty hot. The fluffy and tender moments between them made us see how compatible they were. While the internal struggle and personal trauma that we got to read from each of their perspectives, was so nicely written too. Their attraction towards each other, and them trying to control that but eventually falling in love was so fun to read.
The appearance of her family and elder sisters in between the story added more of these amusing moments.
Even though the ending conflict was quite unnecessary, it reminded me of bollywood movie scenes (you’ll know what I mean if you are familiar with both), it wasn’t stretched much and resolved quickly.
Final thoughts: Act your age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert was a 5 star read for me. It had all my favorite tropes from grumpy and sunshine to mutual rivals to friends to lovers. The detailed characterization, heartwarming moments, and some sizzling chemistry between our adorable main leads, made this an unforgettable read.
